SP315 - Urbanisation and Social Policy in the Global South is a half-unit course offered in the Winter Term by Dr Sunil Kumar, Social Policy. The lectures are shared with SP415, the postgraduate course.
The course focuses on concepts, practice and policy relating to urban social policy in cities in developing and transitional countries (the Global South). The topics covered include urban concepts and theory, internal migration, poverty and livelihoods, labour markets, housing and tenure (landlords and tenants), urban basic services, urban social movements, and planning and participatory urban governance. State and non-state actors, as well as gender, are a cross-cutting element of the course. The weekly course blocks will be available as the course progresses.
