About the course
This course will contemplate the relationship between human lives and the environment across the world and thinking into the future. The course is grounded in the urgency of human and environmental problems faced across the world, from climate change and pollution to poverty and economic exploitation. Throughout the year, students will explore and debate what human ‘development’ and ‘sustainability’ mean, and how to understand these complex and flexible concepts together. GY121 is split into two distinct terms with different disciplinary and methodological approaches: Michaelmas term is taught by a geographer and Lent term is taught by an environmental economist. Together, these two terms will expose you to the diversity of ways that sustainable development is thought about and studied.
