Are you wondering how new technologies are changing the legal profession and law enforcement? The commitment to behaving ethically is at the core of legal practice, but what does this actually mean and why is it so important? You would like to practise as a lawyer, but how do you skillfully negotiate a positive outcome for your client? You hope to one day argue a case before a judge, but what are the components of top advocacy?
Foundational Practice Skills is a co-curricular programme for our second year LLB and BA A&L students. It is a non-assessed programme that supplements the LLB curriculum and will run across the Autumn and Winter terms. It is split into five modules and will run in the following order: (i) LegalTech, (ii) Legal Ethics, (iii) Problem Awareness and Negotiation, (iv) Commercial Awareness and Negotiation and (v) Advocacy. You need to sign up for each module separately (you can sign up for as many as you want, subject to capacity).
The programme will introduce you to some of the key ideas and skills needed for both your future career and assessment centres and interviews. There will be little to no preparation and there are no pre-requisites. Students are required to attend at least 66% of sessions in modules LegalTech, Legal Ethics and Advocacy, and 100% of sessions in Problem Awareness and Negotiation and Commercial Awareness and Negotiation (given the workshop nature of these sessions), to receive certification.
The Foundational Practice Skills Programme starts on Monday 30 September. Please register by Thursday 26 September.
