This course introduces students to theoretical and practical foundations of empirical social science research design. It is neither qualitative nor quantitative in focus, but rather is concerned with core interdisciplinary principles of research design that span methodological traditions.

The research designs that students work on for these assignments are typically related to their MSc dissertations or PhD theses.  As such, students have found MY400/MY500 to be an extremely useful course for helping them to specify workable research questions and to design strategies that enable them to answer these questions in a rigorous way.
