Convened by Professor Bart Cammaerts
The aim of this course is to examine the various ways in which media and communication is relevant to activism, social movements and ultimately to agency and social change. During the course, attention will be given to the role of communication practices, self- as well as mainstream representations, material resources and the role of the discursive, as well as the facilitative and constitutive role of the internet for social movements and resistance. Examples from all over the world will be provided, relating to different political systems, as well as media contexts.
