In this course we study jurisdictional problems arising in litigation resulting from international business transactions, from the point of view of English law, European Union law, US law. Topics include: general jurisdiction over corporations and individuals; jurisdiction over branches and agents; specific jurisdiction over contract and tort claims; constitutional limitations on jurisdiction in the United States. Specific case studies in recent years have focused on, e.g., the localisation of purely financial loss, concurrent litigation, or proceedings involving multiple defendants.
