Course Convenor: Professor Myria Georgiou

Course Teaching Assistant: Stephanie Guo

This course examines the relation between identity and the media in the context of migration and transnationalism. It explores meanings of identity, especially as these are shaped through the intensification of communication and mobility of people, ideas, and media across borders. As the transnationalisation of media and communication practices becomes ordinary, the course raises a set of important questions: How do individuals shape a sense of self in an interconnected world? How are communities – cultural, national, diasporic – constructed and how is belonging enabled or restricted?  What is the role of communication technologies in enhancing collaboration or conflict within and across societies?
