Over the last five years, the international trade regime has encountered some of the most significant challenges it has ever faced. The increased political salience of anti-internationalist political movements in major supporters of the regime, a series of global shocks and crises including the COVID19 pandemic, alongside rapidly escalating tensions between the US and China have led to a radically changed landscape of international trade governance. This year, the purpose of this course is to introduce students to this new landscape, and some of the key elements of the new trade agenda which appears to be emerging.
Important scheduling note: Face to face teaching will occur this year on Mon 13th, Tues 14th, Wed 15th and Fri 17th, not Thursday 16th. As a result, we will have slightly longer teaching days on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, as well as a small amount of recorded material. I will also offer extended one-on-one feedback sessions for all students, during which I provide detailed feedback on a plan of your assessed essay.
