The study of inequalities is vast, and the course cannot realistically cover every aspect. This course is therefore divided into two blocks, each of which focuses on a core issue to allow cumulative understanding over several weeks’ lectures and classes. The first term will encourage students to think critically about different forms of inequality, along with their causes, consequences and analysis. The second term will focus on the political issues associated with contemporary inequality. Linking issues raised across the topics, students will be able to reflect on the potential for differing modes of political engagement and policy remedies.
