This course introduces students to theoretical and practical foundations of empirical social science research design. It provides an overview of qualitative, quantitative, and design science approaches to research. Drawing on a variety of examples in Information Systems and related social science disciplines, the course will provide a platform for students to consider a range of design options, as well as methodological techniques. By the end of the course, students will be familiar with a variety of research design options and will be better equipped to critically evaluate IS research and to design and conduct their own research projects (most immediately, their dissertations).
