About the course

Africa is the least urbanized, yet fastest urbanizing, continent. How can we understand what is happening in African cities and urban regions? This course addresses key issues currently facing African cities drawing on current research in human geography, African studies, development studies, urban studies, anthropology, sociology and planning studies. These include: urban histories, political economy, livelihoods, rural-urban connections, planning, land, housing, infrastructure and risk (environmental and health). You will develop an in-depth understanding of at least one African city through the assessed essay.
