This module will examine the global security and its challenges in a dynamic international system. Students will use case studies, engagement with academic and policy-based materials and active discussion to develop a clear understanding of the sources, actors and systemic influences on global security. The focus will be threefold. First, on the evolution of traditional security interests and the role of state-led initiatives, from defence and security alliances to multilateral approaches, aimed at addressing these concerns. Second, analysing the sources and solutions to transnational security issues such as terrorism and organised crime. Third, new security challenges emerging from the digital information age.
