This course aims to encourage students to think about and debate some of the major issues and questions in Criminology. We explore the social construction of crime and deviance; the different sources of information about them; key factors that shape patterns and perspectives, including gender, race, culture, and the media. We examine different theoretical perspectives through the topics that will be covered. We also explore some of the key agencies and strategies that control and seek to prevent crime.
