This course introduces students to the core features of the UK constitution. It explores the role of the conceptual framework of the UK constitution, the main institutional actors (the legislature, the executive, and the judiciary), and the processes of constitutional change. The impact of both EU membership, Council of Europe membership, and devolution are central themes of the course. Emphasis is placed throughout on the changing nature of the UK constitution – in particular the move from a more political conception to a more legal conception of the constitution– as well as on the case for further change.
