This course looks at the evolution of Islamist philosophy since Ibn Taymiyya. It focuses on ideas as well as intellectual, religious and political leaders. The key areas covered are: the ideas of Ibn Taymiyya, Wahab, al-Banna , Qutb; and Azzam.. Models of Islamic State – Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Malaysia ; Islamist Movements – the Muslim Brotherhood, al-Jihad, Hizb’allah, Hamas, the Islamic Salvation Front, and Boko Haram,; and transnational Islam and international jihadism –al-Qaeda, Jama’at Islamiyah, and ISIS.
