Learning World
Set up by the Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC), Learning World is not technically a course but more of a resource bank for study skills and other student-support information. ALL students can register for Learning World, which offers advice on studying at the LSE. There are resources for a range of academic skills including essay writing, reading strategies and quantitative exams. There is a full list of central events (with presentation slides and video files) as well as information about follow-up classes, one-to-one study tutorials and academic advice. Under the banner APD, Learning World provides links to integrated skills programmes offered by the TLC, Language Centre and Careers Service (including the termly newsletter for students APD Focus) with the aim of maximizing your potential.
Library Companion for Researchers
The Researchers' Companion is designed for research students and staff, but Masters and UG students starting their dissertations will also find it useful. Here you will find further help and advice on finding references, citation searching, tracking down theses, newspapers and conference materials in addition to journal articles, searching the internet, organising your materials and finding statistical data. Library Companion for Students
The Library Companion is available to all LSE students and is particularly useful for new students as it includes essential information about finding your way around the library. It also includes online training information about: using the library catalogue and e-journals; getting to grips with the internet; citing and referencing; using Endnote reference management software; and lots more topics. Also known as Navigating the Research Process , this resource has been developed by Dr Sunil Kumar , Social Policy. It is a non-assessed online resource that provides guidance on the following research elements: introduction, literature search, literature review, research question, conceptual frameworks, analysis, conclusions, and referencing your work. It is a generic course, for use by undergraduates, postgraduates and doctoral students, in their own time.
